During today's meeting we had the pleasure of having Professor Amy Bowen speak about The Bowen Theory. This approach looks at the reciprocal relationship that exists between the family and the individual and how that contributes to symptom expression in psychological disorders. Professor Post was able to give us a quick look into a case study from the Bowen approach.
Bowen theory looks at treatment in therapy in a way that is different than the way we typically approach therapy and this makes it an extremely interesting and dense topic. There is a lot to this theory and we only had time to get a general introduction. If you have questions or would like more information about this theory, Professor Post can be contacted at [email protected]. You can also visit TheBowenCenter.Org for more information.

Today was our first member meeting of the semester! We started out with a "marshmallow challenge" activity which involved teamwork and getting to know one another. Then, we went over the tentative schedule of the semester and we also did Psi Chi Board Officer introductions. The PowerPoint with today's slides as well as a more detailed copy of our "minutes" are at the links below.
Also, Next week, 9/17/14, Dr. Mattanah will be here to provide information on the Honors Thesis program for psychology. Also, Gabrielle Handwerk, clinical specialization alum, will be here to provide information regarding the Clinical Track here at TU. Both of these programs require applications during the fall semester of junior year, so I would encourage all interested students, especially juniors, to attend this meeting.
